About Life & Legends Magazine
I first became aware of Life & Legends Magazine two years ago and have been eager to be part of the magazine’s commitment to “building bridges between languages and cultures” ever since. The magazine is a fantastic, welcoming place where rich, vibrant writing takes the stage and personal stories add an emotional touch to each narrative.
About Summer Storm and Villa of the Papyri
I wrote these two poems alongside a third poem entitled Rushmore Face in an attempt to capture elements of myth and legend more starkly in my writing. I wanted to write a rich, sensual piece alive with feelings of culture and past.
It was a challenge to tie mythological elements and real-world culture into my poems, but I enjoyed sitting with the evolving poems and rewriting. I rewrote and revised until the narrative satisfied me and I am glad I did. I feel that these two poems published at Life & Legends Magazine in particular are two of the most beautiful, alive poems I have written to date.
Writing Workshop
I am excited to keep pushing myself into unfamiliar terrain and take up more writing challenges like the one that produced these poems. In fact, early next week I am taking part in the Synching Pop Culture Within our Narratives: Searching for Art in a Pop Culture World: Alchemy Writing Workshop.
I have not attended a writing workshop before so, while I am almost reluctant at the idea of baring first drafts written during the workshop to my fellow attendees, I am also excited to see what new ideas and inspiration awaken in me.
Poetry Excerpt!
The following is an excerpt of my poem, Summer Storm, published at Life & Legends Magazine.
Bamboo screen thin, the streets of Venice
Shine through the wasting water.
Stagnant love and harmony of goddess
Distill between cracked fingertips
Imported rose water burns flesh
Silk parasol smokes in hazy sun . . . please do continue reading here and feel free to share your beautiful thoughts!
