The Short of It is Susi’s way of helping writers bloom by welcoming them into her world of written humanity. She searches for poets and writers “who can touch someone’s heart in a meaningful way by leaving the reader saying wow, feeling an epiphany or just loudly internally screaming YES! . . .”
I love reading the crisp writing and delicate publications present at The Short of It. Each poem offers raw emotion and insight into humanity. If you are looking for the perfect way to experience the best of The Short of It’s publications, pick up a copy of The Sound of Brilliance anthology! The anthology features the moving work of over forty writers (including myself) published at the magazine during 2021.
Why I Love Micro Poetry
I began writing poetry by writing micro poetry. The inexperienced poet in me assumed smaller verses would be easier to master and write. I soon learned micro poetry is about utilizing every word; every letter must belong to the poem. There is no room for anything but the concise.
Here I utilize the concise through five micro poems that come together to form a mini series, if you will, that contributes individual imagery and emotion to a larger picture. Imagine that the slices of a cake each taste of only one flavor. How much richer is the cake, then, when all the flavors come together?
I invite you to enjoy Preceding, Into Silence, Tinging, Awaken, & Satisfied and frame the bigger picture you discover in the mini series with a frame of your own individual interpretation. The following is my poem, Preceding. It starts off the mini poetry series published at The Short of It.
I pluck hearts from the sky
Count pennies amassed in fortune
On the moss cold
Under my concrete touch
When I read of Shakespeare
I see the strings in Romeo and Juliet and
I pull them.
